33 N. Main St. in Pittston, PA – known as the Dante Building – is a modern, professional office and retail space located at one of the city’s highest-visibility intersections.

S|D|A Architects, P.C. secured the contract through the City of Pittston Redevelopment Authority as part of its multi-million-dollar initiative to revitalize the city’s aging downtown. 33 Main. St. was completed in 2013 and remains an active part of Pittston’s commercial ascent, hosting multiple active businesses on its ground floor and the offices above.

In 2012, the lot at Main and William streets provided a window into the past: a dirt space adjacent to an abandoned and dilapidated former carpet business. Any motorists passing through the city center viewed this site, a remnant of the city’s long-past glory days.

At that time, Mayor Jason Klush and the City of Pittston Redevelopment Authority were engaged in a highly active initiative to bring Pittston into the modern era. With 33 N. Main St. slated to be demolished and rebuilt, S|D|A Architects, P.C. provided a design that respected the heritage of the city’s primarily brick skyline while signaling the changed times with the all-glass ground-floor facade.

The structure showcases everything S|D|A Architects, P.C. does best. The brick-and-block construction materials provided the building’s inner strength, clean appearance, and efficient build. 33 N. Main also benefits from the hallmarks of modern construction: thermal-envelope sealing for energy efficiency and elevator access to the upper floors to adhere to Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations.

As with the majority of S|D|A Architects, P.C. designs, our principal, Scott Douglas Allen, utilized his many years of construction experience to fit the necessary mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) elements into the 17,000-square-foot space on just a 0.17-acre lot. This is where our focus on preliminary site evaluation and analysis becomes critical to our designs.

33 N. Main St. was a major victory for Pittston’s downtown-renewal initiative. For S|D|A Architects, P.C., the project allowed us to contribute to the economic modernization of this former coal and garment city in a region we ourselves call home.
